FOMA Talk

A Medieval Christmas - Toni Mount

Friday 22nd November 2024, Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30pm start

In the middle-ages Christmas was celebrated with as much enthusiasm as it is now, perhaps more so, as the belief in God and the birth of Christ were very real to everyone. But how do you celebrate without turkey, roast potatoes, or Christmas crackers and what about Santa?

We would however recognise many aspects of a medieval Christmas - Christmas carols and the Christmas feast, the invention of mince pies and even the first pantomime dame. Toni Mount will explore the origins and traditions of the Medieval Christmas in this entertaining, illustrated talk.

At St Nicholas Church Lower Hall, Strood, Rochester, ME2 4TR. Car park entrance off Gun Lane, ME2 4UG (almost opposite the Health Centre).
